We finally had a chance to head out to the Azores islands off the coast of Portugal last summer. Brandi and I made the trek from Texas to Madrid to Lisbon to Ponta Delgada where we met Annemarie (from Texas – living in Spain), Talia (from Texas – living in Portugal) and Ramon (from Catalonia – living in Barcelona). If you haven’t checked out the Azores, here are 8 reasons why you should visit the Portuguese islands.
An AirBnB was our home for 3 nights in the town of Lagoa on the island of São Miguel, the captain of the islands. We visited the beautiful lake called Lagoa do Fogo, the small town of Furnas, the hot baths of Caldeira Velha and went canyoning and horseback riding – we only had a few days on the island and a lot of driving was involved, São Miguel was WAY bigger than I had imagined. If you visit São Miguel and the Azores, you probably need a week to really see all of the things the island has to offer. Hopefully next time we’ll be able to island hop and see how São Miguel is poised in the Atlantic archipelago.
