Dragonstone Filming Location – San Juan Gaztelugatxe

Brandi and I visited San Juan de Gaztelugatxe on the Northern coast of Spain in the Basque Country several months after they shot on the island for the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. This was the filming location for Dragonstone, an abandoned city in Season 7 that shows up in Episode 1 that aired last Sunday. We brought the DJI Mavic Pro drone to capture images from above and truly see the lay of the land. Towards the end of our video, you can see where we set up to fly the drone without disturbing other hikers that were taking the Basque pilgrimage during this cloudy day.

The Basque Country is known for its rolling hills, world famous cuisine and its culture that is older than most groups of people outside of the Mesopotamia region. Another fun note is that their language has no roots to any other tongue which makes its origins incredibly mysterious. On our 2017 trip, we got to see Bilbao, San Juan, Gernika and the beautiful city of San Sebasti√°n also known as Donostia in the Basque Country.
